For her heart surgery we chose the newer approach of doing the repairs up front, without the conventional, first-stage B-T shunt operation that is often done done months ahead of the actual repair. The primary reason why we chose to go straight to the actual repair is that it held the most promise for a best possible prognosis for Katya.
