Q: What kinds of surgery has Katya already had?

A: When she was three days old she had to undergo emergency surgery to correct a bowel constriction that was becoming life-threatening. (The problem was a malrotation in her GI that was complicated by a volvulus.) At the same time Katya's inverted appendix was removed. At about 3 months of age, on November 28th, 2001, she had open-heart surgery to repair tetralogy of Fallot heart defects (or Fallot's tetralogy) which consisted of four major defects: ventricular septal defect (VSD), pulmonary valve stenosis, over-reaching aorta, and right ventricular hypertrophy.
